While the Chapter covers aren't actually part of the visual representation of The Dualist, -I- and its sister page -II- (which is the first page of Chapter Four) are part of the narrative, and will be present in the final form of the story. They represent an iconic segmentation of the narrative into its first and final halves, and as such are vastly more important than any of the cover images.
They also hip-check the layout, but don't tell anybody. We'll make that our little secret.
