14:46 <@xeno> HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHASDF;ASDF
14:47 <@xeno> < grij> Are we done?
14:47 <@xeno> < photog> no, now, a little to the left
14:47 <@xeno> < grij> I've got things to do
14:47 <@xeno> < photog> Yes yes, but think how nice it'll be to have this done with and the yearbook published
14:47 <@xeno> * grij sighs
14:47 <@xeno> that's totally the look on his face
This page has been edited and may be quite different from what you've read previously. This means you can probably ignore everything in the page post before the =|EDIT|= bit. :P
Usually I just wing the post. I'm going with the half-canned whatever I thought out while processing the page, as I'm in a goddamned sugar coma and feel like all of the blood in my brain has been replaced with room temperature lead. I'm thinking thick, I can't fucking talk, and I have something like a -5 to DEX. Fucking blood sugar.
Before I start ranting about my mom's side of the family and mom's willingness to procreate in SPITE of a long and florid history of amazing (and occasionally explosive or spontaneous) defects, here's the bit:
As usual, things didn't turn out quite like I imagined, for reasons stated above. Hard to wax creative when you spend thirty seconds staring at a pencil trying to remember why you looked at it to begin with. I originally wanted to do a Steadmanesque photo manipulation, but I kind of DON'T HAVE A FUCKING CAMERA, so I went with the traditional processing instead. One of these days I'll stop fucking it up, I promise. You can bet that the next one won't look like a dork. Or will look like less of one, anyway.
Scenes for Chapter Zero are interconnected with single-frame "portrait" pages, like this one- the next page will be formatted in a similar fashion, with a different character. This is an experiment, and I hope it turns out how I think it will. It should be pretty cool in hardcopy when it's all said and done.
Here's the pre-fix spread, with a portside shoulderboard that took a photoshop crash and too much time to fix:
Ph34r my ph@t Chapter Three stylings. As you can see, the -12- has been corrected: the shoulder pod dropped to the right level and some experimenting to reduce the banding to something bearable. Woot.
19:26 <@ejp> I still say Grij looks like Hugo Weaving with evil bunny ears.
19:26 < mdxi> hahahahaha
19:26 < mdxi> The Horned Elrond
19:26 < mdxi> curse you, i'd *never* thought that
19:27 < mdxi> but now i will forever
19:27 <@ejp> :D
Also. If you hadn't noticed, there's a hell of a lot of artifacting / "banding" on Grij. Check older pages, you'll see the same problem with some shots of Val. The problem is that Photoshop shits its knickers like a frightened schoolgirl over the dark end of the spectrum, and my monitor doesn't like certain narrow aspects of the bright end- I was surprised and severely pissed to find that the fade on Grij's left shoulderboard doesn't actually fade on hardcopy. It just kind of Stops. Looks fine on the screen, though! The black/dark problem isn't as noticeable at Windows gamma, and it doesn't show up as much on hardcopy, but I'll be damned if it doesn't annoy the piss out of me- especially times like this (eg, post page upload) when I'm prone to histrionics, etc.
The only alternative is to either use fewer colors or adjust the color palettes accordingly. I doubt versions of Photoshop higher than 5.5 have bothered fixing this - high octane color blending seems to take a backseat to dumbing photoshop down for fucktards. I may be wrong. I hope I am- if this is the case, I may eventually stop using 5.5 and, yanno... upgrade to 6 or something.
=====
Oh, and I swiped the Heirotus ding off of Grij's cloak- it's easier than adding it to the previous pages I've left it off of. I like the look, but it was stupid of me to blatantly break continuity. :P I might add it back in during The Edit- dunno yet.
======| EDIT 2005.01.12 |======
15:44 < dayquilios> that's it.
15:44 < dayquilios> grij looks like too much of a drok.
15:44 < dayquilios> dork, even.
15:44 < dayquilios> I'm redoing the current page.
15:45 <@ejp> that's not allowed.
15:45 < mdxi> don't you make me stop this comic!
15:45 < dayquilios> yeah it is.
15:45 < dayquilios> I can't go forward for another week, so it's this or wangbabies.
15:45 <@bda> MOM SHE'S LOOKING OUT MY PANEL
15:46 <@ejp> Grij's touching me again!
15:48 < dayquilios> fags.
15:48 < mdxi> this is MY side of the veil, that is YOUR side of the veil
15:49 < dayquilios> I'm keeping the background, redoing the line art.
15:49 <@ejp> <grij> MY SIDE! YOUR SIDE! MY SIDE! YOUR SIDE!
15:50 * ejp giggles
I don't want another one of your rational explanations.
The old page looked like complete shit, as you can see here:
I mean, really. What the fuck. The difference here gives you an idea of what to expect from The Edit. Sorta. That's why I smacked an "e" tag on the page, anyway. Future Edits may or may not be as drastic. We'll see.
I'm MUCH happier with the replacement. 014c is extremely close to what I originally had in mind- and in some ways, it's actually better. Go go gadget dayquil.
